| in 1972 i was about to turn 16 and get my driver's license. coach warmerdam was the driver's ed instructor. with me and another student on our first time out, coach warmer said in his non-chalant way, "do you know how to drive?" to which i replied "of course". he told me to drive down to piggie's (back then located ON soquel ave). it was in june and hot weather, so he went in, bought a san fran chronicle, another sports journal, a playboy, and a beer in a paper bag. he said, ok, drive around west cliff or something. he really never paid any attention, and when he caught me looking at the open playboy mag in his lap, he remarked i wasn't driving correctly. the other student never even drove! this is 100% the truth! and coach warmerdam categorically denied this! | |
